FRANKIE AND JOHNNY AND THE CLARE DE LUNE

HAPPY HOUR READINGS PRESENTS:

FRANKIE AND JOHNNY IN THE CLAIR DE LUNE

Co-Presented with Rec Room Arts

JUNE 11 - 27, 2026

by TERRENCE MCNALLY
directed by EMMA BACON

This intimate romantic comedy unfolds in a small New York apartment, where Frankie, a guarded waitress, and Johnny, a “grill master”, share an unexpected end to their first date. What begins as a one night stand slowly deepens. Johnny is convinced he found the one, while Frankie, shrouded by her past of hurt and disappointment, resists. Over the course of one intimate evening, they navigate longing and fear, discovering that the greatest risk is allowing oneself to be truly seen, and ultimately the tenderness that can emerge once you surrender to vulnerability.

ABOUT HAPPY HOUR READINGS

Supported by Rec Room Arts, Happy Hour is a curated, community-driven initiative that has quickly grown from a monthly play reading series at Rec Room Arts into an emerging producing force dedicated to developing and supporting the next generation of theatre artists. Rooted in communal storytelling and spirited conversation, Happy Hour has built a loyal and ever-expanding audience, regularly filling Rec Room’s intimate rehearsal room with artists and theatre lovers eager to engage with bold texts and one another. Building on the momentum of these gatherings, the company expanded into staged readings in 2025, producing The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? by Edward Albee and Women, Beware the Devil by Lulu Raczka, further deepening its commitment to artistic exploration and collaboration. Now, with this production, Happy Hour takes its next step into full-scale producing, continuing to center community building, elevating Houston voices, and creating meaningful opportunities for artists to grow. Their work prioritizes process over spectacle, mentorship over hierarchy, and access over exclusivity. Happy Hour is championing theatre that invites vulnerability, challenges binary thinking, and moves artists from conversation into creation.
